Is Romania Worth Visiting?

Romania is far more varied than its clichés suggest. From Bucharest and its contradictions, to the architecture, monasteries, and churches of Iași, and the medieval towns of Transylvania, such as Sighisoara, there’s a remarkable amount to see across the country.

Language

Romanian is the official language. English is widely spoken in cities and tourist areas.

Romanian Leu (RON). £1 = approx 5.8 RON. €1 = approx 5.0 RON.

Time Zone

Eastern European Time (EET; UTC+02:00). Daylight saving time (UTC+03:00) is observed from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October.

Visas

Romania is in Schengen so passport holders from Schengen countries can travel and work freely. UK & US citizens do not need a visa for short stays.

When to Go
