Andorra | Travel Information
Tucked into the Pyrenees between France and Spain, the principality of Andorra works wonderfully as a stop on an overland journey between Toulouse and Barcelona. It’s the largest of the European microstates, and its capital, Andorra la Vella, is the highest capital city in Europe. The spectacular mountain setting attracts visitors all year, with skiing popular in winter and hiking in summer. The duty-free shops are a draw year-round, with plenty of familiar brands and designer stores. There’s plenty more to keep you occupied with things to do in Andorra.
Here are some useful things to know about Andorra, to help you plan your visit.

- Capital: Andorra La Vella
- Language: Catalan is the official language. Spanish and French are widely spoken, and English is understood in tourist-facing places.
- Currency: Euro (€). Andorra is not an EU member but uses the euro as its official currency. Currency converter
- Visas: Andorra is not part of the EU or Schengen Area, but access is via France or Spain. UK, EU & US citizens do not need a visa for short stays.
- Electricity & Adapters: Standard European plug types (C/F) at 230V; no adapter needed for most European devices.
- Transport Links: Access via France or Spain by bus or car; no airport or rail station within Andorra itself.
- When to go: Summer is ideal for hiking and outdoor activities. Winter is popular for skiing. Spring and autumn are quieter, but the weather can be changeable.
- How long to spend: I recommend 1-2 days to explore Andorra La Vella and the neighbouring Les Escalades. Allow longer if you want to explore beyond the capital.
